The
goal of Handwriting Without Tears® is to make
legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill for
all students. The unique and compelling curriculum design and
teaching strategies facilitate this goal.
The
curriculum uses multi-sensory techniques and consistent habits
for letter formation to teach handwriting to all
students—Pre-K through Cursive. In addition, HWT provides
parents and teachers the instructional techniques and
activities to help improve a child's self-confidence, pencil
grip, body awareness, posture and so much more!
Handwriting
Without Tears® uses fun, entertaining and
educationally sound principles in its instructional methods.
The lessons are well thought out. The curriculum has been
successfully taught to millions of teachers, therapists and
parents across the country. The end result is truly
"Handwriting Without Tears" for the students,
the parents the teachers and the administrators!
Child-Friendly Language
In the Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum,
teachers learn to use the same simple words. For example: The
names of the 4 basic wood pieces are always “big line,
little line, big curve and little curve.” The teachers and
children always use those exact words. Capital R is made with
a big line, a little curve and a little line. It’s easy and
consistent
Lessons and activities introduced in a developmental sequence
The Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum teaches the easiest
skills first and then builds upon what the children have
learned. Building and forming capital letters is first done
with the Wood Pieces on the Letter Cards and on the Mat. The
Roll-A-Dough Letters™, Stamp and See Screen™ and Slate
activities all follow the stages of learning.
Letters
are taught in a sequence that makes sense developmentally.
They are grouped together based on similarity of formation.
After children master the easier letters, they are ready to
move on to letters that are more difficult to form.
At Handwriting Without Tears® we believe in
celebrating the child and his work. We want children to be
proud of their work, so we have designed our program to help
in this process.
